Life Care Centers of America’s Whatever It Takes And Then Some program honors associates who go beyond their job descriptions in caring for residents, their families and fellow associates. Here are three of the inspiring stories from our October 2019 winners:
Brett Bullock, certified nursing assistant at Life Care Center of Burlington, Kansas, came in on his day off to help a resident that requested help in decorating a pumpkin for Halloween. Bullock also made a point to take a new resident on a tour of the facility and introduce him to everyone so he would feel welcomed.
Kim O’Brien, certified nursing assistant at Life Care Center of Plainwell, Michigan, has formed a special friendship with one of the residents in her facility. O’Brien regularly accompanies the resident on trips outside of the facility and comes in after work hours when he requires additional care. On one occasion, she even took the resident and his family to visit her farm and see her donkey. The resident loves spending time with O’Brien, and she always makes herself available to provide him with friendship and excellent care.
Denise Pare, physical therapist assistant at Valley View Villa in Fort Morgan, Colorado, heard that a rehab patient was without shoes. She took her own shoes off of her feet, gave them to the resident and went home in socks that day. The next day, she brought in another pair of shoes for the patient to keep.
