On Sept. 11, 2015, Valley View Villa in Fort Morgan, Colorado, said thank you to its local first responders with a free breakfast.
This is the third year that the facility has offered the breakfast in memory of 9/11.
A group of local police officers, firefighters and EMS workers enjoyed a breakfast burrito buffet in the lobby, which was decorated in red, white and blue.
“We have a small, rural first responder department,” said Gayle Steffen, admissions and marketing director. “We know them and see them routinely in our city. We are so appreciative of their hard work and longevity with their departments. During this time in our history when police officers are being portrayed the way they have been recently, we want to let them know that we love them.”
The county sheriff and the city police chief attend each year and encourage their officers to come and share the meal. In addition to a free breakfast, the officers also enjoyed engaging in conversation with associates, who sat with them at the tables.
“It makes them feel more comfortable in our building,” Steffen added, “and likewise, we feel more comfortable when we have to call them for anything.”
